Dedication​ to knee research and teaching the next generation

As director of training for trauma and orthopaedics for London deanery NW Thames (2011-2018) Mr Gupte helped reshape training for the consultants of the future in this region. He is also ex-President of the Royal Society of Medicine Orthopaedics Section having served as President in 2012.

He continues his research and surgery as a Clinical Reader in the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College, with particular emphasis on:

• meniscofemoral ligaments

• anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction state of the art operations

• lateral tenodesis and acl augmentation

• patellofemoral instability

• ACL reconstruction in children

• meniscal repairs and preservation in children and adults

• osteoarthritis non surgical alternatives

• unicondylar and total knee replacement

• lower limb osteotomy

• patient safety in knee surgery

• clinical effectiveness and efficiency in surgery

• simulation training of orthopaedic surgeons

Award winning

• As a young surgeon in training Chinmay was the prestigious British Orthopaedic Association Robert Jones Gold Medal Proxime Accessit in 2005.

• He won the Royal Society of Medicine Orthopaedics Section President's medal for his research.

• He was awarded the Sir Roger Bannister Scholarship at Pembroke College, Oxford for sporting and academic excellence.

• He was a Domus Scholar at Oxford University

• Chinmay has also led award-winning teams that have received recognition from the European Knee Society,  and Imperial College London.

He therefore takes the time to listen to and understand each patient’s unique circumstances, so that he can recommend the best treatment option for their own injury and lifestyle goals. Regardless of how complicated the problem or complex the injury, Mr Gupte is committed to finding the right solution for each patient.

A multidisciplinary team-oriented philosophy

Having worked in teams throughout his sporting and professional life, Mr Gupte recognizes that providing the best knee injury treatments to his patients requires the collaboration of a strong team. This includes nurses, physiotherapists, biomechanics experts and allied health professionals.  Together, Chinmay and his team aim to work with patients to visualise, plan and strive for the best possible outcome, whether this is with conservative management or with surgery.

Drawing on personal experience

As well as being a surgeon, doctor and academic, Chinmay is also an ex sportsman, father and son. As such, he empathises with the apprehension and concern that musculoskeletal conditions can create not only in the patient, but also their close relatives. Thus he strives to provide a patient-centred approach to all his practice.
